- Scope. Alongside l‑asparaginases, the database includes evolutionarily related enzymes such as l‑glutaminases, mixed l‑asparaginases/l‑glutaminases, β‑aspartyl‑peptidases, Glu‑tRNAGln amidotransferases and aspartylglucosaminidases. Inclusion of an entry does not imply confirmed l‑asparaginase activity.
- Automatically classified sequences. Unlike the manually curated entries, sequences from UniRef100 were not filtered before inclusion and may contain sequencing errors or represent non‑functional proteins. We recommend comparing them with the alignments and conserved motifs of the relevant family before further use.
- Flagged entries. Where a sequence reported in a publication raises doubts — for example, if the protein as presented lacks a critical conserved motif — the entry is retained in the database but marked with a tooltip indicator in the tables explaining the concern. Such entries should be interpreted with caution and checked against the original publication.
- Classification confidence. Most families are defined by evolutionary distance and local support values, but a few remain weakly supported, and some sequence placements within these should be considered tentative.
- BLAST classification. BLAST classifications are computational predictions based on sequence similarity, not experimentally verified annotations. They should be treated as suggestions and may be unreliable for divergent, short, partial or low-quality sequences.
- Predicted structures. Reference monomer structures shown on class and family pages are AlphaFold computational predictions, not experimentally determined structures.
- Intended use. The Asparaginase Database is a research resource. It is not intended to inform clinical, diagnostic or treatment decisions, nor food safety or regulatory compliance decisions.
